#36 From humble beginnings to Berklee School of Music

Interview with Dirk K

We chat with Dirk K. who has recorded over 30 CD’s in the course of his career, and worked with such great jazz legends including Randy Brecker, Dave Weckl, Toots Thielemans, Brandon Fields, Peter Erskine, and Rick Braun, just to name a few.

Dirk shares his career insights, from his humble beginnings as a student at Musikhochschule Koeln in Cologne Germany, working his way up thru the ranks at Guitar Institute of Technology in Los Angeles CA, eventually winding up at the Berklee School of Music in Boston MA.

He has toured extensively throughout Europe and the United States, both as a solo artist, and a sideman for other touring acts. Dirk lets us in on what it takes to compose jazz music, and how he continues to be successful at a genre that has been going thru major adjustments at the radio station and record label level over the past decade.
